The All Pakistan Textile Mills Association Asked The Government To Provide High Quality Cotton Seeds.

Akber Sheikh, President of Punjab Association of APTMA, called on the prime minister to ensure that the quality of cotton seeds was provided to farmers during the planting season.

He made the appeal at the interactive meeting between APTMA and the peasant association of Pakistan farmers association.

He said the supply of cotton in Punjab province was very confusing, and there were problems in the use of biosafety agreements and intellectual property rights by government departments.

He said that the representatives of the agricultural front and the textile industry seriously studied the problems related to cotton yield per unit in 2008-09.

He said that the textile industry almost absorbed all the cotton produced in China.

The participants agreed that it is very important for the two sides to work together to solve common concerns.

The meeting decided to make recommendations to the government and implement some measures as soon as possible to ensure a bumper harvest next year.

These measures include water resources in cotton fields, ensuring water resources and at least 15% increase in yield. The government provides qualified cotton seeds and measures for pest control, including timely provision of high quality insecticides and dissemination of cotton seed information.

President APTMA said that the meeting also agreed to recommend to the government the importance of introducing qualified BT cotton seeds so that cotton production can be increased to 20 million packs in the shortest time to meet the needs of domestic industries and eliminate the dependence of the textile industry on imported cotton.
