Dongguan, Guangdong: 50% Of Tannery Wastewater Can Be Reused For Production After Treatment

On the basis of up to standard discharge, 50% of the wastewater from these enterprises will be reused for production after effective treatment. The reporter learned yesterday (June 17) that Dongguan Environmental Protection Bureau required these enterprises to complete the rectification before the end of September to reduce chemical oxygen demand. These 30 jeans washing enterprises are located in Changping, Dongcheng, Fenggang, Gaobu, Hongmei, Houjie, Humen, Machong, Qingxi, Shatian, Wanjiang, Wangniudun, and Zhongtang. The content of rectification and improvement is to take further treatment measures on the basis of the current standard discharge, improve the removal rate, and reuse 50% of the wastewater for production after effective treatment. The person in charge said that the wastewater discharged by these enterprises before was treated and discharged up to the standard, and no recycling was required. The reason why these 30 enterprises are selected as the scope of improvement of environmental protection enterprises is that they are all denim clothing washing enterprises with large water demand and low requirements for recycled water quality. It is reported that the existing industrial enterprises in Dongguan discharge 230 million tons of wastewater annually and 630000 tons of wastewater daily. Among them, there are 1252 key polluting enterprises in six major industries, including electroplating, bleaching and dyeing, paper making, tanning, water washing and printing. The total annual discharge of wastewater is 180 million tons, accounting for 78% of the total annual discharge of industrial wastewater in the city. These wastewater have caused serious pollution to Shima River, Dongyin Canal, Hanxi River, Nanyulang River and other basins, threatening the water quality safety of Dongjiang drinking water sources and major standby water sources. The relevant person in charge of the Environmental Protection Bureau told reporters that there are more than 500 water washing enterprises in the city at present, including those for jeans and woolen fabrics. Among the 32 towns (streets) in Dongguan, Changping Town has the largest number of key polluting enterprises, with 209 in total, of which 187 are water washing enterprises. According to the Environmental Protection Bureau, the rectification is required to be completed by the end of September 2008. It is estimated that the chemical oxygen demand can be reduced by 2500 tons in 2008 and by 07600 tons in 2009. If the enterprise still fails to meet the standards after rectification, it will be included in the rectification within a time limit.
